Notes
  • Counties may not add up to the state total if the state total was updated in a later edition of Crime in Illinois.
  • Beginning in 2012, blank indicates noncompliance/no data was submitted for the reporting year.
  • The Illinois State Police publishes I-UCR data for each year twice, for example I-UCR statistics are published as 2018-2017 and 2019-2018. In such cases the later published numbers contain minor revisions to numbers. ICJIA policy is to update to the most recent published version of this data when available, such that numbers for 2018 reflect the data published alongside the initial release of 2019 data.

murderintMurder Arrests - Arrests for the willful (non-negligent) killing of one human being by another. Illinois Criminal Statutes include multiple homicide-related offenses. Only first and second degree murder are included here for consistency with the federal offense definition.Non-negative integer.
sexual_assaultintCriminal Sexual Assault Arrests - In the federal UCR program the underlying offense/cherge leading to arrest is called "Rape", however in Illinois the relevant criminal statutes are called criminal sexual assault. Prior to 2014 the federal UCR program used the term forcible rape, a term which only included "the act of a man having sexual bodily connections with a woman; sexual intercourse.". Since 2014, the definition of rape is " Penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim. Force is not a required element." The latter is largely consistent with Illinois criminal statutes related to the Illinois offense of criminal sexual assault since 1984.Non-negative integer.

This type of assault is usually accompanied by the use of a weapon or by means likely to produce death or great bodily harm. It is not necessary that an injury results from the attack when a weapon is used that could cause great personal injury; attempts and attempted criminal homicide are included. Illinois criminal statutes allows battery and assault offenses to be elevated to aggravated based on who the victim is (police officer, correctional officer, fireman, private security officer, teacher, emergency medical technician, disabled person, person age 60 years or older, or pregnant victim); where the incident took place (public way, public property, or sports or entertainment arenas when events are scheduled); or if the assailant conceals his identity (hooded, robed, or masked). If the battery or assault offense is elevated to aggravated based ONLY on one of the criteria above, the offense is not classified as aggravated and should not be reported. Non-negative integer.
theftintTheft Arrests - Arrests for the unlawful taking, carrying, leading, or riding away of property from the possession of another; aƩempts are included.Non-negative integer.
burglaryintBurglary Arrests Historically, vehicle burglaries have been classified and reported as thefts.
