ICJIA Budget Actions Taken June 20, 2024

On June 20, 2024, the ICJIA Budget Committee approved a $656,000 future funding opportunity and awarded $44.2 million in grants to agencies and organizations across Illinois.

Notice of Funding Opportunity

The Budget Committee set aside $655,741 in SFY23 State Crisis Intervention Program (SCIP) funds to support a notice of funding opportunity for firearm restraining order outreach and training programs.

Grant Awards

The Committee designated:

  • $344,260 in FFY23 SCIP funding to the Illinois State Police firearm restraining order outreach and training programs.

  • $8,816,740 in SFY25 Community-Based Violence Intervention and Prevention funds to 27 community organizations across Illinois.

  • A $1 million SFY25 line-item appropriation to support the Safer Foundation Working 4 Peace program, which provides employment opportunities to young adults, especially those with criminal records and those reentering their communities.

  • $6,694,300 in SFY25 Street Intervention Program funding to support the Metropolitan Family Services’ Communities Partnering 4 Peace program, which provides a targeted and holistic multi-tiered approach to confront gun violence in Chicago neighborhoods at highest risk for violence.

  • $15,299,900 in SFY25 Violence Prevention and Reduction funding to 20 community organizations across Illinois.

  • $1,290,800 in SFY25 Death Penalty Abolition funding to five organizations to provide services to surviving victims of homicide.

  • $1 million in SFY25 Flexible Housing Pool Reentry Pilot Program funding to the Center for Housing and Health.

  • $743,590 in FFY23 National Forensic Science Improvement Act funding to four entities for crime lab enhancements

  • $674,200 in SFY25 Community Partnership for Deflection and Substance Use Disorder funding to four agencies to support programs designed to deflect community members with substance use disorders from legal system involvement to treatment.

  • $5 million in SFY25 Less Lethal Alternatives funding to the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System for less lethal alternative subgants to law enforcement agencies.

  • $316,110 in SFY25 Statewide Diversion Program funding to support the Winnebago County DIVERT program. The DIVERT initiative supports diversion and deferred prosecution programs at pre-trial or prosecution phases.

  • $49,000 in SFY25 Illinois Family Violence Coordinating Councils planning grant funding to BUILD Inc. BUILD will lead potential grantees through a strategic planning process that prepares them to apply for an IFVCC Implementation grant.

  • $454,000 in SFY25 IFVCC program continuation funding to nine Family Violence Coordinating Councils across Illinois.

  • $360,000 in SFY25 Safe From the Start (SFS) funds to three entities serving 12 counties lead potential grantees through a strategic planning process that prepares them to apply for an SFS Implementation grant.

  • $2.2 million in SFY25 SFS program continuation funding to nine organizations.
