Drone Reporting for Law Enforcement Agencies
The Illinois Drones as First Responders Act (Public Act 103-0101) requires law enforcement agencies report their drone ownership and usage annually. The Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA) will publish this information on its website every July.
Reporting Requirements
Law enforcement agencies must report:
- Drone ownership
- Number of drones owned
- Usage details for each drone flight including the following: (by uploading your flight logs in one file)
- Date and time
- Reason for use
- Location
- Video recording status
- Video retention for training purposes
- Latest agency policy on drones as of April 1 each year (by uploading your policy)
Reporting Process
- Reporting period: April 1st to March 31st each year
- Annual online submission deadline: April 1st each year
- Who reports? All law enforccement agencies must report, even if they do not own or use drones.
- How to name files to upload: Before submitting using the online form, please prepare your flight logs and policy. Please save flight logs in one file and your policy using this file naming convention:
- Flight logs (Microsoft Excel preferred): “AgencyName_DronesUse2025”
- Policies (PDF preferred): “AgencyName_DronesPolicy2025”
