Research & Analysis Update, Summer 2025 Edition
ICJIA’s Research & Analysis Unit is committed to advancing justice and informing policy through rigorous research and evaluation. Our latest newsletter, Summer 2025 Issue 19, highlights key initiatives and achievements in the field of criminal justice, victim services, and violence prevention.
This edition features a spotlight on juvenile justice trends in Illinois. ICJIA research staff released several publications, including a research brief on racial and ethnic disparity in the juvenile justice system, as well as an accompanying dashboard that visualizes juvenile justice data from 2017 to 2022. The dashboard can be filtered by five juvenile justice system points: arrest, detention, informal probation, transfer to adult court, and confinement.
Our newsletter covers new research publications, including a paper on Mental Health Professionals’ Experiences of Burnout and Vicarious Traumatization. ICJIA also partnered with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to publish A Content Analysis of Illinois School Bullying Policies. The researchers found that percentages of students experiencing bullying was highest in Central Illinois for three of four forms of bullying compared to other regions.
Finally, ICJIA research staff published an article in the journal Justice, Opportunities, and Rehabilitation discussing outcomes for individuals who have participated in Illinois Adult Transition Centers (ATC). A survival analysis revealed that ATC participation was associated with a 15.5% lower probability of rearrest and a 36.9% lower probability of reincarceration.
