RESEARCH: Police Use of Discretion in Encounters with People with Opioid Use Disorder
Police frequently encounter people with opioid use disorders, which can have a profound effect on their risk environments and health outcomes. Officers retain much discretionary authority in responding to these encounters. To explore factors that influence their decision-making, ICJIA researchers surveyed a sample of 248 police officers from 27 departments across Illinois.
