ICJIA Budget Actions Taken July 18, 2024

On July 18, 2024, the ICJIA Budget Committee awarded $18.9 million in grants to agencies and organizations across Illinois.

Grant Awards

The Committee designated:

  • $861,000 in State Fiscal Year 2025 (SFY25) Community-Based Violence Intervention and Prevention grants to CircEsteem and Firehouse Community Arts Center of Chicago to support community-based violence prevention programming
  • $3.1 million in SFY25 Violence Prevention and Reduction (VPR) line item appropriations to 10 entities in Chicago and East St. Louis.
  • $500,000 in SFY25 VPR grants to support the Illinois Prison Project Medical Release Program.
  • $1.4 million in SFY25 General Revenue Fund Violence Prevention/Youth Employment grants to five organizations offering violence prevention and youth employment programs.
  • $3.2 million in SFY25 Community Trauma Recovery Center grants to support continued Live Free Chicago dba Live Free Illinois trauma services through June 2025.
  • $875,00 in Federal Fiscal Year 2021 Justice Assistance Grants to support two police-lead deflection programs, seven multi-jurisdictional narcotic prosecution units and 15 multijurisdictional large-scale narcotic trafficking enforcement groups.
  • $9 million in SFY25 Co-Responder Pilot Program grants funds to four police departments across Illinois. Co-responder programs incorporate mental health services into police responses, providing victim assistance, as well as diversion from the criminal justice system.
