ICJIA ANNOUNCES $3.8 MILLION GRANT OPPORTUNITY TO SUPPORT VIOLENCE PREVENTION

CHICAGO—The Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA) today announced a $3.8 million funding opportunity to support community violence prevention initiatives, prevention services for children and families at risk for harm, and long-term, trauma-informed services.

[his grant opportunity will be supported with state Community-Based Violence Prevention and Intervention Program (CBVIP) funds. Grants will align with the 2020-2024 State Violence Prevention Plan, with goals of stopping violence and promoting safety; supporting children, youth, and families; advancing equity in communities; and building healthy communities.

“Every community has its own unique challenges and issues and community members know better than anyone how those challenges can be addressed,” said ICJIA Acting Executive Director Delrice Adams. “This opportunity empowers organizations to design their own programs and leverage state resources to create safer and more resilient communities.”

Grants will support smaller local organizations (with operating budgets of $3 million or less) in areas of community engagement and support, such as recreational activities and community events that promote peace and non-violence; prevention services for children, youth and families at risk of harm; and long-term trauma-informed services, both for those harmed by violence and those who have harmed others. Awards will be made for between $50,000 and $200,000.

Another agency with expertise in providing training and technical assistance on trauma-informed and restorative justice practices and implementation will be awarded approximately $100,000 to provide technical support to the organizations awarded CBVIP grants.

[ live virtual bidder’s conference for potential applicants will be held on October 7, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Join here. It is highly recommended that applicants attend the bidder’s conference or watch the recording, which will be posted on the ICJIA website at https://www.icjia.state.il.us.

Goals of the 2020-202 Statewide Violence Prevention Plan include the following:

  • Address systemic equities by increasing access to grants and other economic opportunities.
  • Support violence prevention programming that builds, supports, and sustains mentally and physically strong individuals, families, and communities.
  • Promote collaboration across state, municipal, and community based agencies with data and research support.

CBVIP grants must be spent between January 1-June 30, 2022. Applicants in good standing will be eligible for continued funding for up to 30 months, contingent on state appropriation. The application deadline for this funding opportunity is November 1, 2021.
