ICJIA has an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with Cook County through the Justice Advisory Council, in which the County will provide ICJIA up to $5,000,000.00 to cover costs associated with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who will work directly with the Community Violence Intervention (CVI) Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) identified by the Government Alliance for Safe Communities (GASC) as needing capacity building support.
The GASC Capacity Building Network for Community Safety was developed to strengthen the infrastructure of CBOs working in violence prevention. Many of these organizations face challenges in securing funding, sustaining operations, and implementing best practices. Through this initiative, ICJIA is supporting a centralized model in which an anchor organization will provide direct technical assistance, training, and networking opportunities to improve organizational effectiveness and sustainability.
ICJIA had awarded UCAN $2,500,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funding to the United Community Action Network (UCAN) to serve as the anchor for the network. The $5,000,000 provided by the IGA will strengthen the infrastructure of CBOs across Cook County by providing a centralized hub for tailored technical assistance, coaching, and support to improve organizational sustainability, program delivery, and long-term impact.
